SNAPSHOTS VOL. 3 compiles Kol B’Seder’s third and fourth albums, Sparks of Torah (1989) and In Every Generation (1993,) both now out of print. Two additional songs from the original Sparks of Torah album, Mah Tovu and Laasok B’divrei Torah, and two additional songs from the original In Every Generation album, Lo Alecha and Yeish Kochavim, are all included in Kol B’Seder: Snapshots Volume 1.
From the original notes for Sparks of Torah:
“Since 1971, we have created and performed new Jewish music as part of a personal search for meaning in traditional Jewish texts. For almost 20 years we have sought new musical ways to celebrate Judaism—a Judaism influenced and enriched by American culture and its music: folk, jazz, pop and rock…The title of this album expresses the hope that each melody might open eyes and hearts to the mystery, beauty and wisdom of our tradition. May these songs spark our souls as we seek God. Let these Sparks of Torah add warmth, richness and meaning to Jewish lives everywhere.”
From the original notes for In Every Generation:
“The duo of Cantor Jeff Klepper and Rabbi Dan Freelander bring to their original material a wealth of knowledge of Judaism and Jewish music, giving their sound a contemporary spin born of the 1960s and ‘70s. It is virtually impossible to attend a Jewish camp, religious school, convention or worship service and not hear one of their songs, etched in our collective subconscious like traditional folk tunes whose authorship is long forgotten. Kol B'Seder's melodies help us celebrate Judaism using musical styles that reflect our lives. Their music is a gift that we, and our children, will enjoy for years to come.”

Dedicated to the memory of David Jacob Freelander
Dan's brother, David Jacob Freelander, died of AIDS in January 1987. David was an artist, and his unique vision constantly challenged us to look at this world and our lives with new eyes. In death, as in life, his vision urges us to find new meaning and explore new horizons. His sparks help us find Torah. To the blessing of his memory we dedicate this album.
